Coming Soon: Nissan EV with Range Extender

Coast Nissan 2 red leaf chillin

Nissan, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, plans to introduce an EV with range extender. According to Yoshi Shimoida, Nissan’s deputy general manager for electric car engineering, it will be “an entirely new car with a chassis separate than the one the LEAF is built on.” The range extender engine will be used solely to generate electricity, unlike the internal combustion engine on the Chevy Volt, which can drive the front wheels under some circumstances. Shimoida said that Nissan will unveil the name of this range extender technology next year, noting the similarity to the approach BMW uses for its i3 REx. “But we call it a series hybrid,” he says. Nissan joins other automakers in the goal of putting more EVs on the road, and offering more options in the lineup of electric vehicles is an important step in that direction. Coast Nissan is proud to offer incentives on a new LEAF lease, there has never been a better time to go electric. Stop by today to learn more, and see which model is right for you.

Manufacturing at Nissan Plant Reaches All-Time High

Coast Nissan 2

In Canton, Mississippi, at the Nissan plant that produced a record-breaking 33,000 vehicles in October, you won’t find any dust on the line. Executives forecast that over 350,000 vehicles will be produced there in 2015. Steve March, VP of Manufacturing, said the plant’s productivity is largely based on the strength of its workforce, which boasts over 6,000 members. “The men and women of Canton have really worked hard to get us to this. It hasn’t been without difficulties but we’ve overcome each and every one of them. It shows the commitment that Nissan has in this particular facility. We’re a global player, we’re a big player in the Nissan world, and it’s really important for us today.” The Canton-based plant is home to the production of nine vehicles, including the Nissan Titan XD. Interestingly enough, the Titan is made on the same line as the Frontier and the Murano crossover. March notes, “There’s no other facility in the Nissan world that has the same level of complexity that we do here.” To reserve your Titan XD today, visit the friendly folks at Cardinale Nissan in Seaside. The pickup is expected to hit dealers by late December.

Nissan Aims to Bring EVs to the Everyman

Coast Nissan 1

With MSRP starting under $30k, the Nissan LEAF is certainly more attainable for the masses than some of its luxury competitors. If you ask Carlos Ghosn, CEO of The Renault Nissan Alliance, bringing electric cars to the masses is of primary importance. That said, the automaker has no plans to compete with Tesla in the luxury electric vehicle segment. If any specialization with electric cars occurs, it will be in the crossover category, according to Ghosn. CUVs are currently seeing a huge explosion in America, Europe and China. In terms of electric cars, Nissan’s focus is on rolling out the next-generation LEAF, which is expected in the next 1-2 years. The LEAF is reported to receive a significant battery upgrade, as well as body redesign, in the coming model years. If you’d like to learn more about the automaker’s roadmap for electric vehicles, drop by Coast Nissan in San Luis Obispo today. Whether you’re looking for a new or used car, Coast Nissan has a variety for every taste and budget.
