Electric cars are slowly working their way into becoming more mainstream rather than just some experimental alternative. The technology has grown over the past five years, thanks to partnerships and research into this alternative way of driving that is more efficient and environmentally friendly. Electric cars now aren’t much more expensive than a gasoline powered vehicle, and their seating and trunk space has also been catching up. But one reason that deters many potential drivers is needing to charge the car, and that is why Nissan is making this process faster and more convenient.

While the electricity needed to fully charge an electric car is much cheaper than buying gas, the time investment has always been much more. A trip to the gas station takes only about five minutes, but many electric cars have had charge times upwards of an hour. If you are at home this isn’t a big deal as you can just leave it overnight, but for road trips or vacations where a person might need to refuel along the way, it can delay you. Fortunately, Nissan has been installing new dual port DC fast chargers in locations all across the country that can provide an 80% charge in under 30 minutes.
These new 50-kW fast chargers will have your Nissan Leaf ready to go quickly, and are being built around the U.S. as part of Nissan’s No Charge To Charge Program. Best of all, anyone who buys or leases a 2013 or later Leaf will receive two whole years of free charging at these stations. That’s right, you won’t even have to pay for the electricity. Nissan has also partnered with BMW in order to bring this Combined Charging System to even more areas in 2017. Nissan estimates that over 90% of Leaf owners will have easy access to free and quick charging in the coming future.
