Although Nissan has been in partnership with NEC Corp, its battery supplier, since the development of the Nissan LEAF electric car, the automaker is planning to drop NEC Corp and begin doing business with LG Chem. When questioned about the move, a Nissan spokesperson said that the automaker has committed to offer the very best battery packs in the industry – currently these are provided by LG Chem. The South Korean battery firm has revealed that it has a new lithium-ion battery pack that is less expensive and is capable of holding more energy.
