The Nissan Maxima: A Four Door Sports Car

Nissan Maxima

The 2016 Nissan Maxima is a great performer and that has a lot to do with the CVT, which is highly responsive. Lag is minimal when you hit the throttle and in manual mode, you get the feeling that you’re driving a 7 speed.

However, you’re still reminded that the Maxima is a CVT because there’s nothing no indicate shifts. All you hear are gear ratios changing. In the Sport mode, the throttle does feel a bit more responsive.

So, how safe is the 2016 Maxima?

Well, there are a total of 3 trim options and each one comes with its own set of safety features. However, there are a few standard safety features as well, which, are available across all 3 trims. These include the Forward Collision Warning, the Blind Spot Warning, and the Forward Emergency Braking etc.

The Platinum trim comes with additional safety features such as the Around View Monitor, Driver Attention Alert, Moving Object Detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Conclusion

The 2016 Maxima is a sporty vehicle, all said and done and this is despite the presence of the CVT and FWD (Front Wheel Drive). The vehicle also boasts of a well-tuned suspension, which makes it a dream to drive around corners.

A Long Term Review Of The Nissan Maxima

Nissan Maxima

Firstly, the Nissan Maxima competes with the likes of the Kia Optima and the VW Passat. Both these cars are considered stellar cars. In fact, the Kia Optima is probably one of the most feature loaded vehicles you’ll ever come across. It’s got seats that can be cooled or heated, a user friendly infotainment system, a nice sunroof, and a whole lot of other goodies.

But, once you step into the 2016 Nissan Maxima, the Optima feels ancient and we’re not even comparing it with the top end Platinum variant of the Maxima. To begin with, the Maxima’s interiors are, simply, far more tasteful.

The back is roomy enough to convince you that you’re in a classic British or German luxo-barge. The exteriors of the vehicle are outstanding as well. Though, it may not cater to everyone’s taste, there is no denying that the Maxima has more attitude now.

The Maxima is also a big car, but, it doesn’t let the weight or the size hamper its performance. The car is enthusiastic around corners and pretty stable. Of course, there is some mild understeer, due to all the weight being pushed up front. However, things do stay under control as long as you’re under the limits.

The 2016 Nissan Maxima

Nissan Maxima

The Maxima is Nissan’s flagship model for a reason. It has always managed to stand out. The 2016 version is no different. It boasts of an exterior that can only be described as “head turning”. Then, there is the completely updated powertrain, followed by a number of technologically advanced features that offer oodles of convenience.

The driving configuration, as of now, is FWD or Front Wheel Drive.

The powertrain remains standard across all trim levels. It is a VQ Series V6 with a displacement of 3.5 liters. Power is rated at 300 horsepower (10 more than the previous model) with 261 pound feet of torque. The transmission is a CVT (Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission) and that remains standard across all trim levels as well. Of course, drivers have the option of shifting between Manual and Sport mode.

Fuel economy has also improved compared to the preceding model, thanks to the better engine and the reduction in overall weight. In terms of appearance, the Maxima’s appearance is sporty. However, there’s no compromise in terms of passenger space.

Storage is also plentiful, courtesy of a well-sized trunk that offers 14.3 cubic feet of cargo volume. Additional space can be enjoyed by folding the 60/40 rear split seats.

Safety features such as Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, and Blind Spot Warning are standard across all trims as well. Other options such as the Around View Monitor, Driver Attention Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control can be had with the top end Platinum trim.

Complete Coverage of the Nissan Maxima – III

Maxima

Well, we know that the 2016 Nissan Maxima has great a great interior and a great exterior. But, none of that matters if the vehicle doesn’t have the right heart. Luckily, the Maxima has something fantastic to offer under the hood.

It is powered by a new 3.5 liter V-6 that’s mated to an Xtronic transmission. The Xtronic transmission also happens to be performance oriented. Almost 60% of the parts used in the drivetrain are completely new compared the older V-6.

As a result, the new engine puts out 300 horsepower and 261 pound feet of torque. That’s around 10 horsepower more than the previous engine. That’s a good bump in power.  However, that’s not the best part. The best part is the engine’s fuel efficiency. Nissan has managed to achieve a 15% boost in fuel economy, despite the increase in power.

So, now, the Maxima offers 30 miles to the gallon on the highway and 22 miles to the gallon on city roads.

It is also one of the more powerful sedans in its class. In comparison to the Toyota Avalon, the Maxima offers 32 horsepower more and when compared to the Chevrolet Impala, it only lacks a mere 3 horses. Also, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is estimated to be around 6 seconds, which makes it faster than both, the Avalon and the Impala.

Complete Coverage of the Nissan Maxima – II

Maxima

We saw how much of the 2016 Maxima’s exteriors were based on the Sport Sedan Concept. However, the subtle design cues don’t just end with the exteriors. The 2016 Maxima has borrowed quite a few cues for the interiors as well.

For instance, the instrument cluster and dashboard are, pretty much, identical replicas of the ones found in the concept vehicle. The only difference is that, here, there are actual production features in place, such as the HVAC vents, functional knobs and buttons.

There is a lot going on at the center console as well. You have fixtures such as the start/stop button, more knobs, cup holders, and a new gear shifter. Despite all these fixtures, the Maxima’s interiors still look well organized and very premium.

The center stack is also angled towards the driver up to about 7 degrees. Apparently, this has been inspired by the GT-R’s center stack positioning.  The console gets a touch of luxury as well, with side padding and contrast stitching. This is something you’ll find even on the door and instrument panels.

Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats with bolsters on the side come as standard on the 2016 Maxima. Also, they have 8 and 4-way adjustment options for the driver and passenger, respectively. The seats are also much softer now, thanks to an innovative 3-layer foam design.

On the base models, premium cloth serves as the wrapping material for the seats. On the higher trims, Nissan has used Ascot leather and standard leather. Alcan Tara is also offered as an option for select surfaces in the cabin.

Complete Coverage of the Nissan Maxima- I

Maxima

Nissan just launched the 2016 Maxima, which happens to be the 8th generation version of its kind. It’s been 4 decades since the Maxima was introduced as a trim level for the ’76 Nissan Bluebird. The new Maxima was unveiled as a surprise impression during the company’s 2015 Super Bowl Ad. But, that was just a teaser.

The official debut happened at the recent New York Auto Show. Needless to say, the debut wowed audiences. The Maxima boasted of a complete design overhaul that incorporated plenty of sport DNA; something that the Maxima has been treated to in extremely small doses in the past.

The 2016 Maxima is definitely an attention grabber. It enjoys an appearance that is similar to that of the Sport Sedan Concept. It is wider by 1.3 inches and longer by 2.2 inches. The increase in length and width allows the new Maxim project itself as an upscale sedan with a wider stance and a lower profile.

Body lines have been streamlined and sculpted to provide a sporty look. The same effect is achieved by the bold front end, which has been heavily inspired by the Sport Sedan Concept.

Headlamps enjoy a boomerang style design and come fitted with LED DRLs. The headlamps flank the grille, which is massive in size and shaped like a V. The grille goes deep into the bumper, lending a very sporty and aggressive look to the vehicle.
