Nissan’s Mode Control Design Technology (NODAL Mount)

Mode Control Design Technology

Nissan has always concentrated on giving passengers an enjoyable and secure driving experience in all kinds of road conditions.

The automaker undertakes the rigid vehicle bodies’ development and reduction of weight. Sometimes, the vehicle bodies may turn out to be vulnerable to vibration due to reduction of weight. So, they took into consideration the vehicle deformation mode in case it vibrates and built a comfortable body by controlling the deformation.

Thoroughly taking into account the deformation vibration mode and using that feature – they worked on this technology and the result is what Nissan called Mode Control Design Technology (Nodal Mount). It facilitates a comfortable and smooth drive always without any kind of disturbance by shake or sound.

The Mode Control Design Technology (Nodal Mount) technology has recognized the co-achievement of drive comfort and weight reduction.

The fundamental characteristic of a comfortable car body is reduced vibration against any input force. However, the counter-action for this may be achieved with extra mass. On the contrary, there’s always a motionless point known as ‘node’. Comfort can be enhanced by designing the vehicle body in such a way that input force is applied to this specific node.

Nissan achieved this drive comfort by researching the ideal body deformation mode at times of vibration and analyzed it. Nissan’s new Mode Control Design Technology ensures a pleasurable driving experience, which aims at realizing an unparalleled level of comfort and assurance.

Nissan’s Hydraulic Body Motion Control

 Hydraulic Body Motion Control

Hydraulic Body Motion Control – HBMC is Nissan’s new suspension technology particularly designed for full-size SUVs to assist in balancing on-road ride comfort and driving performance with off-road ability. The technology was used first in Nissan’s Patrol and later in Infiniti QX.

Nissan’s HBMC helps decrease body lean when turning for a more comfortable drive. Using hydraulic cylinders situated at the shock absorbers, it modifies roll stiffness by permitting fluid transfer between the right and left sides of the car via passive weight transfer at times of normal driving.

The technology features two hydraulic systems linked by cross-link pipes to the hydraulic cylinders of the four-wheel independent suspension. This absorbs the bumps on the street and helps in reducing the body lean while cornering. It assists in minimizing fluctuation of view of passengers on board and gives a comfortable drive. It doesn’t need a source of power as in the case of other similar systems and so there’s no compromise with its fuel efficiency.

Fluid present in the two external wheel hydraulic cylinders circulates to the accumulator and increases the roll stiffness of the suspension. It compromises the centrifugal force, decreasing the level of sinking on the outer side of the car and assisting to reduce the occupant variation of view.

The suspension for individual wheel increases or falls as per conditions of the road, absorbing the vibrations that are caused due to off-road holes and bumps.
