Nissan Sets Goal To Release Self-Driving Cars By 2020

shutterstock_364249241

When it comes to designing advanced features, car manufacturers can only get so far on their own. Most companies consist of automotive engineers who simply don’t have enough technological expertise to make new systems such as a self-driving car, at least on their own. That’s why partnerships with other companies are so important for promoting growth within the industry, as they allow for more complex ideas to be implemented. Nissan recently partnered with several companies to produce autonomous vehicles by 2020.

Beginning with a Microsoft partnership in late September, Nissan has continued to push the limits of car design with their own 300-person tech division, named Alliance Connected Vehicle and Mobility Services. This group will be focusing on three major areas: software development, cloud engineering and data analytics. These three have been identified as the biggest areas that need to be developed in order to produce self-driving cars, which Nissan plans to launch twelve of by 2020.

Software development is likely the most important area, as a car’s onboard computer needs to be able to properly incorporate all its features. Additionally, software is the “driver” of a self-driving car, scanning the road and making adjustments. Cloud engineering and data analytics go hand in hand, as mountains of data collected from different systems must be processed and examined in order for autonomous cars to “learn” how to drive.  To help with both of these, Nissan will be working with the firm Sylpheo as well as the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Nissan is continually improving its features through these partnerships, and it shows in cars like the Leaf and Altima. Come test drive our advanced cars at Coast Nissan, and you can also find our inventory online at www.coastnissan.com.

Nissan Looks To Expand its Electric Car Lineup

Nissasn leaf

With technology rapidly advancing, car makers are scrambling to adapt to the coming changes. Self-driving and electric cars are the way of the future, according to expert analysts, and a number of CEOs have already announced new research investments and partnerships. Nissan is one of these companies, but fortunately they have been involved in electric car development since 2010. Nissan recently hinted at the production of a new electric car to complement the already successful Leaf.

Back in 2010, the idea of an electric car seemed foreign to most people. The limited battery life and weaker engine seemed like too much of a trade off from a conventional car. Early adopters however saw the potential in an energy efficient and zero-emission vehicle. Throughout the years the Leaf has evolved, and is now equipped with a battery that can support distances of over 100 miles. Additionally, the engine is responsive and the car feels good to drive. The new #2017Leaf even has new fast charging capabilities to get you powered up in a flash.

The rumored new electric car from Nissan is expected to fill a void in the current market: family seating. Right now most electric vehicles can only fit around four people, and the cargo space simply isn’t enough. The next car will likely be a hatchback for the added trunk capacity, an SUV for a more comfortable seating arrangement and enhanced storage space or a crossover, which would have the passenger space of an SUV but be lighter and more compact.

Nissan Is A Big Fan Of National Drive Electric Week

nissan logo 1

Nissan promotes National Drive Electric Week September 10-18.

National Drive Electric Week is a program started by Plug In America. The idea behind it is to educate the general public about EVs, stage a lot of demonstrations, allow people to ride in an EV, let people drive an EV and ultimately get more drivers to switch from gasoline cars to electric cars. There are events and celebrations across the country, with events planned in Monterey, CA on September 17, 2017. For more dates and places visit https://driveelectricweek.org/events-list.php

We are not surprised that Nissan is promoting National Drive Electric Week due to their investment in, and success with, Electric Vehicles (EVs). The Nissan LEAF has seen the highest sales ever in history for an electric car. Nissan has put a lot of time and resources behind their Nissan BladeGlider concept card. And in Europe, EVs are beginning to outpace sales of traditional cars. Remember those things we used to drive with the combustion engines? (Said our children’s children).

So Nissan’s focus on EVs makes sense and in fact, is commendable because it is better for the environment to have fewer gas operated cars and trucks on the road. The trend toward EVs looks promising in that regard. There are other benefits, of course. No gas. No oil changes. No tailpipe. No gross fumes in the air. And no emissions. That’s zero CO2 released into the atmosphere. Even Hybrids emit some CO2 because they are not 100% electric.

As the infrastructure for EVs continues to grow and spread, so will the demand for EVs. Car manufacturers like Nissan are already on the forefront of this new technology and we can’t wait to see where they go with it. If we know Nissan, we’re sure they’ll move smoothly and quickly into the future.

Would you like to learn more about EVs and what options are available out there? We would love to help. Come see us at Coast Nissan, or visit CoastNissan.com.

Nissan’s Holistic Approach

Sustainable Business

Carlos Ghosn, CEO and President of the Nissan group said that a new era has dawned on the automotive industry. Spearheading the cause of zero emission travel is Nissan and Renault. The vision of the holistic approach is for Nissan to channelize its investment towards revolutionary green technology like an improved internal combustion engine, biodiesel driven cars, hybrids and at the crux- the zero emission vehicles like those powered by electric batteries and fuel cells.

Nissan emphasizes on zero: The aim is not to diminish but abolish emission by culling out the engine and replacing it with a clean analogue. The vehicles released in this segment are neutral and flags off with battery operated automobiles. The electric cars mass manufactured by Nissan in one of a kind, zero carbon dioxide and particle emission cars. They are currently the epitome of environment friendly mobility. Apart from being environmentally conscious, these vehicles are zippy, competitively priced, maintain high safety standards and best of all, are affordable.

The alliance of Nissan and Renault promotes research and manufacture of cars with zero emission technology. The pair of automobile titans is also involved in the construction of necessary infrastructure to accommodate 100 plus zero emission partnerships with governments and other electric organizations and companies.

Nissan is committed to the vision of zero emission cars and is taking all the necessary steps to reach its goal. Zero emission mobility is the future.
