This sports car has earned the name through its domination of the competition in events like time trials and lap races. The GT-R even set the record recently for the fastest quarter mile. To get you prepared and educated about the sheer power the GT-R can offer, Nissan is offering new owners one day of track-driving instruction at an actual raceway.

The Nissan GT-R Is The Fastest Drift Car

The Nissan GT-R has become the fastest drift car on the planet after the team at NISMO modified to reach speeds of 190mph, while going sideways. The car was never meant to be a drifter – it was meant to be a fast-paced thrill on the race course.

The modifications for the car include a complete overhaul of the interiors and dual-clutch transmission. They have been replaced with racing seats, a cage and a sequential gearbox. Rear-wheel drive has replaced the car’s original all wheel drive system. To get the beast roaring, a 4L twin-turbo V6 engine resides under the hood and is paired with a good nitrous injection system. It can now produce an eye-pooping 1390 horsepower.

To help with the drifting, the front tires are bigger than the rear ones. The suspension has undergone a complete overhaul to accommodate this. The GT-R was always meant to be quick on the lap but everything on the car was scrutinized and revised to make it go as fast and as sideways as possible. The GT-R set the world record with Japanese driver Masato Kawabata behind the wheels.

Nissan Kicks Off the 2016 Motorsport Season in Australia

Nissan has officially started the 2016 Motorsport Season in Australia. On the track, representing the Nissan squad, you can expect to see, Michael Caruso’s #23 NISMO Nissan Altima V8 Supercar, equipped with a new variation of the global GT3 colors that the Altima carried in 2015. Nissan reports that the #1 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 aims to take home first place in the back-to-back Bathurst 12 hour races. “Today is a display of how heavily committed Nissan is to Australian motorsport,” said Nissan Motor Co. Australia Managing Director and CEO Richard Emery. “Elements from all three pillars of our local motorsport activities – V8 Supercars, GT3 and the Bathurst 12 Hour, and the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy program – were all at Phillip Island. All is now set for a huge 2016 season, beginning with the Bathurst 12 Hour next month where the Nissan GT-R will strive to win back-to back victories at Mount Panorama, just as it did in 1991 and 1992.”
