Coast Nissan’s Hybrid And Electric Models Help You Save On Gas

When it comes to saving money on gas, all you really need is a car with a hybrid or electric engine. Most of your fuel is used in stopping and accelerating the car during city driving, while on a highway it’s easy to maintain a certain speed. A hybrid car solves this problem by utilizing an electric motor at lower speeds and only switching to the more powerful combustible engine when going fast. This heavily boosts the fuel efficiency for hybrid and electric cars. To try out Nissan’s diverse hybrid lineup, including the Pathfinder, Rogue and Leaf, head to a San Luis Obispo car dealership such as Coast Nissan.

Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rogue is Nissan’s best selling car overall in 2017 thanks to its hybrid engine and flexibility. As a crossover, the Rogue blends the line between the driving style of a sedan and the carrying capacity of a larger SUV. With plenty of seating, a large trunk and incredible safety features, this car works well for almost any family. The hybrid engine option boosts the fuel efficiency of the base model by 6 mpg, giving you more bang for your buck at the pump.

Nissan Pathfinder

For an even larger SUV, consider the Nissan Pathfinder, which makes use of its supercharged hybrid engine to achieve an impressive 26 combined mpg. The three rows of seating easily fit seven, and the Pathfinder is one of the only SUVs with a dynamic driving mode selector, which allows you to choose between 2WD, 4WD and Auto.

Nissan Leaf

If you want to never visit a gas station again, the Nissan Leaf runs solely on electricity and has no emissions. Charging takes as little as half an hour and Nissan has installed thousands of public charging stations around the U.S. as part of the No Charge to Charge program.

At Coast Nissan, our friendly sales team will help you find the right hybrid for your life, and can help answer questions along the way. From summer savings deals to top of the line Nissan service, you can find everything you need to get started at www.coastnissan.com.

Nissan Shares Its Vision Of The Future Of Cars

nissan logo 1

The 2017 North American International Auto Show, or NAIAS for short, brought together numerous car manufacturers and designers for some engaging discussions in the future of transportation. CEOs and lead engineers presented in front of large crowds at the event, including Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. Ghosn is one of the most vocal leaders of the car industry, and in his talk he listed numerous areas that must be addressed in the coming future. Notably, he focused on four topics: electric cars, autonomy, self-driving cars and applications.

Electric Cars: These small but efficient vehicles have been around for a long time, and making sure they are more affordable and have a longer range in the future is critical. A battery powered car has no emissions and can be charged in as little as 30 minutes. The 2017 Nissan Leaf is a great example.

Autonomy and Self Driving Cars: These two are generally grouped together, as #autonomous cars only require minimal human input. Many automakers have pledged to make these commercial available by 2020, including Nissan, and Ghosn urged others to stick to that promise. They will definitely be the face of driving in the future.

Applications: As smartphones become better integrated with cars, we can begin to use them more efficiently than ever. Voice activated commands and the ability to add events to your calendar are just a few of features companies are researching. The possibilities are endless if every car can be connected to each other. It will also make self-driving cars safer if they can communicate with other vehicles.

Look For New Sharable Car Stations Powered By The Nissan Leaf

Nissasn leaf

One of the biggest advantages of both electric and autonomous cars is their ability to create a sharable and social rental network. There already exist many bike and scooter rental locations in larger cities that allow tourists and locals to navigate around the cities with ease. It’s not surprising this would eventually extend to cars. The electric cars like the Nissan Leaf offer the perfect opportunity for this new kind of service, and the Leaf’s exceptional range and mobility make it one of the most attractive choices for this role.

For any car that is to be shared amongst people, there are a couple of big requirements. The first is that it must be fuel efficient in order to cut down of fuel costs. Fortunately, you can’t get more fuel efficient than an electric vehicle, as they only use a battery as the source of charge. This means no one person gets stuck having to pay twenty or thirty bucks for a new tank of gas if they want to use the car. Additionally, the car must be easy to drive, so a sedan like the #Leaf is a much better option than a traditionally bulkier SUV or truck.

Already these stations are beginning to pop up around the United States. In Tennessee, you can rent one of these cars for nine dollars an hour or forty-five a day after signing up for the program. This system will make cars more accessible, reduce emissions and most importantly provide a new source of public transportation. The stations you pick up the car are even charging stations, so you never have to worry about running out of juice.

Nissan Examines The Benefits Of A Mitsubishi Partnership

shutterstock_191693912

In case you haven’t been following Nissan in the news recently, the company has been looking to join forces with Mitsubishi Motors and reviving them from their current position. This partnership would allow for shared research and development as well as bringing back thousands of jobs. Mitsubishi was recently faced the consequences of inaccurately presorting fuel-economy figures, but Nissan firmly believes it can bring back the company from the pit it is currently in. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosen recently outlined why he believes that the partnership could be greatly beneficial for everyone.

Back in 1999, Nissan had been through some difficult times and was on the brink of collapse, but a timely joining of forces with the company Renault turned that all around and turned it into the industry powerhouse it is today. A similar partnership with Mitsubishi Motors would have a number of economic and consumer benefits. The driving factor behind this merger is that Mitsubishi’s strengths complement Nissan’s, and it will help the company grow in important areas like deeper localization, common vehicle platforms and technology sharing. This is especially important with the arrival of more electric and self-driving cars.

Additionally, Nissan will be able to salvage many of the physical assets that Mitsubishi had to close down, including production plants and dealerships. This will create thousands of jobs and hopefully bring some life back to the communities most affected by these shutdowns. Perhaps most importantly, Ghosen added, “We know what it’s like to face a crisis and emerge stronger,” and they can use that experience to hopefully achieve a similar result as the #Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Electric And Self-Driving Cars Become New Focus Of Nissan

Nissasn leaf

At this point, electric and self-driving cars are on the fast track to becoming the biggest developments the car industry have ever seen. Electric cars are environmentally friendly and they require no gasoline, which reduces costs for consumers and emits no greenhouse gases. Self-driving cars provide drivers a way to escape the boredom of traffic or having to go thirty miles down the highway. Recently, Nissan released the changes they are making in order to stay at the forefront of these market.

For electric cars, Nissan has always been an industry pioneer since the introduction of the Leaf, which was one of the first commercially viable electric cars. As battery technology has been improved over the last couple of years and storage capacities are becoming more viable for everyday drivers, more people are making the switch. The latest Nissan Leaf will offer a 100+ mile range with even more horsepower. Nissan has also been hard at work installing charging stations in thousands of cities across America in order to provide “fuel” for travelers who need a quick recharge.

Nissan has been heavily investing into researching self-driving cars. They have already sold a line of optional autonomous minivans in Japan, and over 60 percent of people took that option. Clearly the public is craving self-driving cars, so Nissan is going to bring it to them. Nissan estimates that their first commercially viable self-driving car will be available by 2020, so keep your eyes on the near future.

Nissan Is A Big Fan Of National Drive Electric Week

nissan logo 1

Nissan promotes National Drive Electric Week September 10-18.

National Drive Electric Week is a program started by Plug In America. The idea behind it is to educate the general public about EVs, stage a lot of demonstrations, allow people to ride in an EV, let people drive an EV and ultimately get more drivers to switch from gasoline cars to electric cars. There are events and celebrations across the country, with events planned in Monterey, CA on September 17, 2017. For more dates and places visit https://driveelectricweek.org/events-list.php

We are not surprised that Nissan is promoting National Drive Electric Week due to their investment in, and success with, Electric Vehicles (EVs). The Nissan LEAF has seen the highest sales ever in history for an electric car. Nissan has put a lot of time and resources behind their Nissan BladeGlider concept card. And in Europe, EVs are beginning to outpace sales of traditional cars. Remember those things we used to drive with the combustion engines? (Said our children’s children).

So Nissan’s focus on EVs makes sense and in fact, is commendable because it is better for the environment to have fewer gas operated cars and trucks on the road. The trend toward EVs looks promising in that regard. There are other benefits, of course. No gas. No oil changes. No tailpipe. No gross fumes in the air. And no emissions. That’s zero CO2 released into the atmosphere. Even Hybrids emit some CO2 because they are not 100% electric.

As the infrastructure for EVs continues to grow and spread, so will the demand for EVs. Car manufacturers like Nissan are already on the forefront of this new technology and we can’t wait to see where they go with it. If we know Nissan, we’re sure they’ll move smoothly and quickly into the future.

Would you like to learn more about EVs and what options are available out there? We would love to help. Come see us at Coast Nissan, or visit CoastNissan.com.

The Nissan Leaf Is Fuel Free And Fun!

Nissan Leaf Review Long Term

The Nissan Leaf not only fairs pretty well in terms of energy efficiency and operational costs, but also has a striking appeal in its exterior and interior design.

The Leaf is available in five separate exterior colors namely the blue ocean, brilliant silver, cayenne red, glacier pearl and super black. The cabin provides a modest space for individuals both in the front as well as rear seats.  As far as the drive quality of the car is concerned, the MacPherson strut front suspension and Torsion beam rear suspension both facilitate a smooth and jerk free ride across most terrains. The Leaf offers a sizeable boot capacity which may be further enhanced by split folding the rear seat backs. The bucket front seats and height adjustable driver’s seat help minimize the strain of long journeys.

In addition to this, the EV offers a variety of other driver convenience features such as cruise control, retained accessory power, tilt adjustable steering wheel, electric speed-proportional power steering and both audio and cruise controls mounted on the steering wheel for ease of access. There are several other tech features such as cargo light area, climate control, front reading lights and electro chromatic rearview mirror, all of which lend a contemporary feel to the cabin.

Apart from the standard convenience features, the Leaf also offers a range of safety technologies which ensure a safe and reliable ride. Some of these features are four wheel ABS, stability and traction control, electronic brake force distribution, engine immobilzer, airbags, tire pressure monitoring and remote anti theft alarm system.

The Nissan Leaf Is A Revolution In Driving

Nissan Leaf Review Long Term

Apart from offering a cheaper alternative to the petroleum, the Leaf provides for various methods through which you could further cut down on your energy costs.

For all those people looking for a long journey in the cold winter months, the best option is to preheat the cabin while the car is plugged into one of the charging stations.  Apart from this, there are a few minor hitches such as low voltage chargers’ insensitivity to some of the charging sockets, which can actually be deemed as pretty standard for the breed of EVs. A similar issue has been identified in the Chevrolet Volt as well, and can be shunned as nothing out of the ordinary. The possible explanation for this could be the structural design of the charging cord available on the EV.

The Leaf may not be an inevitable option of all the automobile enthusiasts out there, but it certainly has an appeal which strikes a chord with those who are open to more radical and futuristic technologies.

Speaking of its on road performance, the Leaf offers an impressive drag coefficient of 0.79 which facilitates handling akin to that of a huge SUV. The acceleration is responsive and can be increased up to a top speed limit of 92 mph. The car can easily hit the 0 to 60 mph mark within 10 seconds flat and takes another 8.7 to reach the 80 mph mark.

The Nissan Leaf Offers Fuel-Free Driving To Everyone

Nissan Leaf Review Long Term

The evolution of the current generation petroleum powered automobiles into something more futuristic like an electric vehicle is inevitable with the introduction of Nissan’ first ever EV called the Leaf.

Among the several driver assistance tech features offered by the car, there is an EV specific technology that finds great utility in locating the nearest charging station. The system maintains a sizeable database of public charging stations and also stores the geo location of any station the car was previously plugged into. Despite the fact that the initial investment required for an EV is a tad bit higher than its gasoline fuelled hatchback siblings, the operational and maintenance costs are far more affordable in comparison to the latter.

The premium spec variant of the Nissan Leaf is priced at a modest $35,440 which is inclusive of $170 floor and cargo mats and an additional quick charge port marked at $700. However, starting from 2012, all the Leafs of SL and SV trims receive a standard quick charge port at no extra cost. In addition to this, the SL trim variant of the Leaf features a heated steering wheel, a battery heater, HVAC ducts on the rear, heated outside mirrors and heated rear and front seats. The aforementioned features not only provide great comfort to the car’s occupants during the cold harsh winter months, but also considerably enhance the cold weather efficiency of the car. The phenomenon can be explained by the energy costs reduction in heating the seats as compared to the entire cabin.
