Nissan Examines The Benefits Of A Mitsubishi Partnership

In case you haven’t been following Nissan in the news recently, the company has been looking to join forces with Mitsubishi Motors and reviving them from their current position. This partnership would allow for shared research and development as well as bringing back thousands of jobs. Mitsubishi was recently faced the consequences of inaccurately presorting fuel-economy figures, but Nissan firmly believes it can bring back the company from the pit it is currently in. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosen recently outlined why he believes that the partnership could be greatly beneficial for everyone.

 

Back in 1999, Nissan had been through some difficult times and was on the brink of collapse, but a timely joining of forces with the company Renault turned that all around and turned it into the industry powerhouse it is today. A similar partnership with Mitsubishi Motors would have a number of economic and consumer benefits. The driving factor behind this merger is that Mitsubishi’s strengths complement Nissan’s, and it will help the company grow in important areas like deeper localization, common vehicle platforms and technology sharing. This is especially important with the arrival of more electric and self-driving cars.

 

Additionally, Nissan will be able to salvage many of the physical assets that Mitsubishi had to close down, including production plants and dealerships. This will create thousands of jobs and hopefully bring some life back to the communities most affected by these shutdowns. Perhaps most importantly, Ghosen added, “We know what it’s like to face a crisis and emerge stronger,” and they can use that experience to hopefully achieve a similar result as the #Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Nissan Sets Goal To Release Self-Driving Cars By 2020

When it comes to designing advanced features, car manufacturers can only get so far on their own. Most companies consist of automotive engineers who simply don’t have enough technological expertise to make new systems such as a self-driving car, at least on their own. That’s why partnerships with other companies are so important for promoting growth within the industry, as they allow for more complex ideas to be implemented. Nissan recently partnered with several companies to produce autonomous vehicles by 2020.

 

Beginning with a Microsoft partnership in late September, Nissan has continued to push the limits of car design with their own 300-person tech division, named Alliance Connected Vehicle and Mobility Services. This group will be focusing on three major areas: software development, cloud engineering and data analytics. These three have been identified as the biggest areas that need to be developed in order to produce self-driving cars, which Nissan plans to launch twelve of by 2020.

 

Software development is likely the most important area, as a car’s onboard computer needs to be able to properly incorporate all its features. Additionally, software is the “driver” of a self-driving car, scanning the road and making adjustments. Cloud engineering and data analytics go hand in hand, as mountains of data collected from different systems must be processed and examined in order for autonomous cars to “learn” how to drive.  To help with both of these, Nissan will be working with the firm Sylpheo as well as the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Nissan Announces Partnership with Univision Deportes

Nissan North America has announced its multi-year partnership with the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol. The automaker is now the official sponsor of Univision Deportes and will have exclusive rights to advertising slots and events. “Hispanics have been fueling our growth this past year, and we recognize our engagement with Latinos as a driving force for our success,” said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing Communications and Media, Nissan North America, Inc. “Nissan’s marketing strategy is about leveraging cultural moments, and we wanted to go big and provide Mexican National Team fans an opportunity to access their favorite team. Nissan Team Very Successful at GT Championship

Nissan 4 GT Championship takes biggest win

Nissan’s Alex Buncombe, Katsumasa Chiyo and Wolfgang Reip had an overall great weekend at the Blancpain Endurance PRO Driver’s Championship. The team was able to swipe the GT4 European title and take the Blancpain Endurance PRO AM title this past weekend. Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales recently said: “This championship is the culmination of many years of strong partnership between everyone at Nissan NISMO, GT Academy and RJN. We have all stuck together through some big successes and some disappointments and have just got stronger as a group over the years.” Coast Nissan is excited to be part of a manufacturing group that is putting its technology and vehicle systems to the test in Motorsports.
