Nissan’s Improved Cruise Control Adapts To Other Drivers

There are many new advancements coming to Nissan models this year, thanks to the time and money the company has invested into developing autonomous cars. Many features such as blind spot recognition have stemmed from this development, as engineers searched for a way to recognize if a car was in an adjacent lane. More and more of these autonomous features are being integrated into the 2018 lineup, such as the Nissan E-Pedal which improves regenerative braking. The latest advancement is an updated adaptive cruise and lane control system, so be on the lookout for the 2018 models arriving soon at Coast Nissan in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Cruise control is a fantastic feature that makes driving on highways or long distances much easier on the driver. By simply accelerating to your desired speed and activating it, you can cruise along without needing to worry. The only time you need to slow down is if a car is moving slowly in front of you, but adaptive cruise control can automatically do this. Coupled with lane management technology, the adaptive system can keep you centered in the lane and automatically adjust the speed of the car to fit whoever you are following.

ProPilot Assist

While adaptive cruise control may seem like it’s a self-driving feature, it is meant to be an assistance system where the driver remains engaged with the road. It can offer a relief during heavy traffic or on road trips, but drivers still need to pay attention and remained focus. Road conditions can change in an instant, and even the best adaptive cruise control system can’t account for every scenario. Nissan commented that, “The driver’s role hasn’t changed. We are just providing assistance.”

Nissan Reveals New Self-Driving Taxi System

Self-driving features like those on the new 2018 Nissan Leaf are important not for just the personal driving experience, but also for the transportation industry. Currently, there are several ride-sharing and taxi services only a tap away on your smartphone such as Uber and Lyft, but both depend on a human to do the driving. With no need for a specific driver, a self-driving taxi would be less expensive and more efficient. Along with the autonomous Leaf, which will be available at Coast Nissan in San Luis Obispo in the near future, Nissan also unveiled plans for a ride-hailing and ride-sharing service that will be completely transformed by self-driving cars.

Affordability

While purchasing and financing a car from a coastal Nissan dealership is an easy process, many people don’t have room for or don’t need a car of their own. In such cases, it makes more sense to source transportation from taxi or car sharing services. Nissan’s new service will be more affordable and effective than current systems, as it would be able to pick up multiple riders along the route in order to cut down on costs and backtracking. Many of these autonomous cars like the Leaf are also electrical, eliminating the need for gas stops and making the cars available sooner.

Implementation

There are several different methods that Nissan is considering to implement this new service. A standard taxi or Uber-like service will almost certainly be the backbone of this system, transporting people to and from destinations. Another possibility is a bus-like system, where a network of cars would be running on predetermined paths with specific drop off and pickup locations. Both of these options will make it easier for people to find transportation, at a more affordable price.

To see how these self-driving cars work and experience a different driving experience, drop by a Nissan San Luis Obispo dealership like #Coast Nissan once the all-new 2018 Nissan Leaf arrives. Nissan Enters Partnership To Make Self-Driving Cars Safer And Smarter

Nissan Partnership

The debut of autonomous cars is drawing closer, and many companies like Nissan have shown of prototypes of their upcoming models. Earlier this year, Nissan invited people to experience an autonomous Leaf in London, taking willing participants out for a spin in a self-driving vehicle. Nissan is now turning its attention to making autonomous driving even safer and more efficient by teaming up with Mobileye in creating precision maps. Simply by allowing the car to travel around the city, Nissan will be creating detailed maps for their self-driving systems to use. At Coast Nissan, your San Luis Obispo car dealer, we can show you the benefits of this new system on our award-winning Nissan Leaf and other models.

Mobileye is company that creates customized computer chips that can help cars avoid collisions. Many cars have this technology already, and use it to detect when a forward collision will occur and automatically stop the car. By integrating these new mapping chips into autonomous cars and collaborating with other vehicles, a dynamic and detailed map of any city or highway can be created. This system benefits from the participation of as many companies as possible, and BMW and Volkswagen have also committed to this project.

A dynamic map that shows a real-time traffic flow would be extremely helpful for #autonomous systems, which could better analyze the movements of surrounding cars. This project also will help create a digital database of all the drivable paths and landmarks around the world, which would make navigation apps more consistent and accurate. It also allows for real-time reporting of accidents and instantaneous updates to the route that an autonomous car needs to follow.

While most companies promised these driverless cars by 2020, Nissan has already hinted at the release of a 2018 Nissan Leaf with self-driving features. When they do hit the market, be sure to stop by a coastal Nissan dealership or visit us online at www.coastnissan.com.

Join Nissan In Charting A Path Into The Future Of Car Driving

shutterstock_251998009

Self-driving cars are the way of the future. Numerous studies and many experts all agree that in the future we won’t have to drive ourselves to work each morning. Now you can enjoy your coffee and music in bliss as the car adapts to the road and other drivers all on its own. But when will these cars be available? Surprisingly, Nissan has already managed to create an autonomous car that will be out for testing in Japan in the next year, named the #ProPILOT.

While an autonomous car still requires a small amount user input, it’s the closest thing on the market right now to a true self-driving car. The Nissan ProPILOT is a compact car that was designed to navigate on highways in single lane traffic. The system consists of a number of cameras and sensors that monitor how the cars in front and behind are changing speed. It’s easy to turn on with a simple switch, and will help ease the stress of gridlock highway traffic on the way to and from work.

Interestingly, the ProPILOT technology is actually in testing right now, but in a form that you might not expect: chairs. You may have seen a short video with some chairs that move on their own and pick up people as they wait in line (if not just look up Nissan Autonomous Chairs). These chairs are based on the same technology and can automatically follow the chairs in front of them at a set distance. This can make waiting in line much easier and more comfortable.

Nissan is hard at work developing the most advanced technology, and you can expect the same standard on all the current models. So come test drive a Nissan Altima or Leaf for yourself at Coast Nissan, or check out all our cars online at www.coastnissan.com.

Nissan CEO Unveils New Plans For Future Designs At Auto Show

shutterstock_191693912

When it comes to creating new features for drivers and developing the latest high tech designs, Nissan is always pushing the limits. Trucks like the Nissan Titan have the easiest to use and most responsive towing systems, while sedans like the #NissanAltima dominate the class, thanks to their design and utility. At the annual Paris Auto Show, CEO of Nissan Carlos Ghosn spilled the secrets on the future of Nissan cars, and left the audience in wonder and excitement.

The newest development is Nissan’s partnership with Microsoft, which had been previously announced but was expanded on by Ghosn. He mentioned that the duo would be working to better integrate vehicle software and compatibility across all models. Most automakers do not necessarily have experts in vehicle software, but with Microsoft Nissan can improve the user interface and make driving simpler and more seamless. This partnership has already shown promise with the implementation of better smartphone connectivity found in the latest 2017 Nissan cars.

The second big talking point was the production of self-driving cars, which Nissan has already had success with in Japan with the ProPilot. Though the ProPilot is only partially autonomous, Ghoson added that Nissan plans to release at least 10 different mostly self-driving cars by 2020, even if they do require some driver input. He expects a completely driverless car will be available by 2025. He also argued that the car will still remain a personalized space for each owner, even with this implementation.

Though self-driving cars won’t be here for another few years, you can be sure the entire Nissan fleet has the latest features and most useful technology. Come test drive any of the new line-up at Coast Nissan, or check us out online at www.coastnissan.com.

Step by Step, Nissan Commits to Self-Driving Cars

Coast Nissan 2_selfdrivingautocar

Renault-Nissan will offer vehicles that are able to take control while a car is stuck in a single highway lane in stop-and-go traffic, later this year. In just two more years – as early as 2018, we will see the availability of multiple-lane highway support. And by 2020, the French-Japanese carmaker plans to introduce autonomous vehicles capable of navigating intersections and city driving. When you think about it, four years isn’t that far away. In that timeframe, the company says that it will launch more than 10 vehicles with some form of autonomous driving features. EVP of Engineering, Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi, said at a recent press event, “We will implement autonomous driving step by step.” He adds that the company is developing the necessary systems to monitor drivers and make sure that they are ready to take the wheel when necessary. For example, a wristband would monitor vital signs. CEO Carlos Ghosn said that “even a fully autonomous car still needs a driver with eyes on the road and hands on or near the wheel.” He hints at Tesla, saying that “not all electric vehicles …cost six figures,” and he commits that Nissan is focused on electric and self-driving cars for the mass market. “This is a global priority,” which is supported by the fact that the Nissan LEAF represents over 45 percent of EVs on the road.
