Nissan Sets Goal To Release Self-Driving Cars By 2020

shutterstock_364249241

When it comes to designing advanced features, car manufacturers can only get so far on their own. Most companies consist of automotive engineers who simply don’t have enough technological expertise to make new systems such as a self-driving car, at least on their own. That’s why partnerships with other companies are so important for promoting growth within the industry, as they allow for more complex ideas to be implemented. Nissan recently partnered with several companies to produce autonomous vehicles by 2020.

Beginning with a Microsoft partnership in late September, Nissan has continued to push the limits of car design with their own 300-person tech division, named Alliance Connected Vehicle and Mobility Services. This group will be focusing on three major areas: software development, cloud engineering and data analytics. These three have been identified as the biggest areas that need to be developed in order to produce self-driving cars, which Nissan plans to launch twelve of by 2020.

Software development is likely the most important area, as a car’s onboard computer needs to be able to properly incorporate all its features. Additionally, software is the “driver” of a self-driving car, scanning the road and making adjustments. Cloud engineering and data analytics go hand in hand, as mountains of data collected from different systems must be processed and examined in order for autonomous cars to “learn” how to drive.  To help with both of these, Nissan will be working with the firm Sylpheo as well as the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

Nissan is continually improving its features through these partnerships, and it shows in cars like the Leaf and Altima. Come test drive our advanced cars at Coast Nissan, and you can also find our inventory online at www.coastnissan.com.

Nissan CEO Unveils New Plans For Future Designs At Auto Show

shutterstock_191693912

When it comes to creating new features for drivers and developing the latest high tech designs, Nissan is always pushing the limits. Trucks like the Nissan Titan have the easiest to use and most responsive towing systems, while sedans like the #NissanAltima dominate the class, thanks to their design and utility. At the annual Paris Auto Show, CEO of Nissan Carlos Ghosn spilled the secrets on the future of Nissan cars, and left the audience in wonder and excitement.

The newest development is Nissan’s partnership with Microsoft, which had been previously announced but was expanded on by Ghosn. He mentioned that the duo would be working to better integrate vehicle software and compatibility across all models. Most automakers do not necessarily have experts in vehicle software, but with Microsoft Nissan can improve the user interface and make driving simpler and more seamless. This partnership has already shown promise with the implementation of better smartphone connectivity found in the latest 2017 Nissan cars.

The second big talking point was the production of self-driving cars, which Nissan has already had success with in Japan with the ProPilot. Though the ProPilot is only partially autonomous, Ghoson added that Nissan plans to release at least 10 different mostly self-driving cars by 2020, even if they do require some driver input. He expects a completely driverless car will be available by 2025. He also argued that the car will still remain a personalized space for each owner, even with this implementation.

Though self-driving cars won’t be here for another few years, you can be sure the entire Nissan fleet has the latest features and most useful technology. Come test drive any of the new line-up at Coast Nissan, or check us out online at www.coastnissan.com.

Nissan Announces e-Bio Fuel-Cell Research

Coast Nissan 4 shutterstock_419253232

Nissan recently released that it is in the process of researching a Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell system that will run off of a bio-ethanol electric power. This new technology would be the first of its kind for automotive use worldwide. The technology would make vehicles run with high efficiency, using various fuels like ethanol and natural gas mixed with oxygen to create electricity.

This e-Bio Fuel-cell produces a great amount of electricity through its power generator, the Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell system, using bio-ethanol in the vehicle. The vehicle this technology would power would have a very efficient power system that would rival the distances that gasoline-fueled cars have. Not only would this technology make the car efficient, but it would make the ride silent.

Fuel-cells use chemicals that mix with oxygen that eliminate the waste of harmful exhaust and other byproducts. These kinds of fuels are widely available across the globe. As the technology continues to develop, it will become easier for the average consumer to use. Maintenance and other costs would be similar to the costs of a standard electric vehicle currently on the market.

This technology pushes society to reevaluate zero-emission vehicles as the new standard. Nissan recently released a concept car that reflects their ongoing research. It is based on a e-NV200 MPV and uses a 24kWh battery that allows it to drive over 373 miles. The vehicle also has the ability to run on ethanol-blended water, which is easy and safe to use. Nissan believes this is a sustainable fuel source because it is based off a substance that is mostly sugar cane and corn.

As Nissan continues to research new technology and the constantly changing needs of the consumer, they continue to create high quality vehicles. To view the latest models Nissan has to offer, visit Coast Nissan.

Nissan’s Scratch Shield

 Scratch Shield

A clear coat that is more robust when compared to its competitors and will leave your vehicle looking better, longer can be had with Nissan’s Scratch Shield technology. Clear coats enhance the external beauty of a car. Scratch shield is efficient at hiding scratches that are very fine and reinstates the car back to its original form or nearly undetectably close to it. Nissan has announced to continue its expansion of Scratch Shield all across the world. Scratch shied is marketed as a self-healing clear coat which can save on costs down the road in maintaining your Nissan’s appearance.

The main feature of a Scratch Shield is that once applied, the car appears to have scratches that are five times lesser than a conventional clear coat painted car. Scratches that are as old as a week or new are successfully masked by the Scratch Shield technology.

The structural component of the Scratch Shield includes an exclusive resin which is highly elastic in combination with the clear coat. This improves the flexibility of the paint and strength depending on the varying resin density in the mixture.

Self-repair of the paint is blocked when the scratches are so deep that the clear coat bonds are broken or in case of clear coat, peeled off. The time taken to self- repair post application of Scratch Shield is temperature and scratch depth dependent. In the case of deep scratches, time taken to restore may be a week or more. Nissan is extending the concept of self-healing to phone cases as well.

To get a coat of Scratch Shield on your Nissan car, and keep it looking new longer, visit Coast Nissan

Nissan Doesn’t Want You Falling Asleep While Driving

nissan-driver-attention-alert-display

One of the most frightening prospects that drivers face behind the wheel is the potential to fall asleep while operating the vehicle. On a long drive or under a condition when sleeping enough the night before simply wasn’t an option this possibility becomes very real with the potential to turn fatal. Luckily, Nissan has come up with a solution to mitigate the risk of injury while drowsy at the wheel. The Driver Attention Alert system is an all new technology that could play a significant role in detecting erratic driving caused due to inattention or drowsiness.

The technology uses the help of steering angle sensors and determines the input patterns of driving in order to create a snapshot of how you had been driving on an average basis. Subsequently, it compares following driving patterns with that of the recent snapshot in order to find out the steering corrections statistically and if they are within the norm for that respective driver.

If the technology determines that the drive is likely operating the vehicle while drowsy or inattentive, it will alert the driver through an audible chime. Additionally it will illuminate an amber coffee cup on the instrument panel along with the message “Take a Break.” The Driver Attention Alert system even monitors other driving inconsistencies such as lane changes, poor road conditions and braking events.

To see this incredible technology for yourself and to see it in execution, we encourage you to visit Coast Nissan and speak with a member of our sales staff. We will enthusiastically showcase to you how Nissan is helping to ensure safety on the roads.
