The Nissan LEAF – Made in America

In past years there has been some controversy surrounding the Nissan LEAF which is assembled in Tennessee but has parts that are mainly made in Japan. The zero emission vehicles have become the best-selling electric vehicles in the U.S. market; but how did people really feel about driving a car that was built in America and 80% of its components came from Japan? Andrew Chiang, a LEAF enthusiast, spoke out about his concern with this very matter back in 2013. Nissan then promised to increase the 15% of contents that come from the U.S. for the next LEAF model. Although there was no exact number in regards to how much it would increase by, Nissan drivers were happy to know that their voices were bring heard. Brian Brockman, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications for Nissan revealed that the next LEAF model will be equipped with a higher percentage of American-made components and will be comparable to other US-built advanced vehicle technologies.
