The Texas Auto Writer’s Association recently named the Nissan Titan XD as this year’s ‘Truck of the Year’ winner. The awarding organization evaluates the large vehicle market every year and selects one annual winner. This award is a very special win for the automaker because, for the first time ever, a Nissan truck won. Fred Diaz, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing and Operations for Nissan North America, said: “Of the hundreds of thousands of miles driven during the development of the all-new 2016 TITAN XD, the miles driven by the truck experts of the Texas Auto Writers Association were the most critical miles driven to date as we prepare to launch our new truck.”

Earlier this week, before the start of the Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan took its Intelligent Driving prototype out on the streets of Tokyo, during one of the busiest times of the day – to see what this car can really do. Early morning commuting in Tokyo is considered one of the worst times to drive, which is why Nissan thought it would be the perfect scenario testing. The car handled itself with ease; in fact, the Nissan Engineer, Tetsuya Lijima, only had to take control of the vehicle one time – when they were at an intersection, turning left and there were no lines in the road for the car to follow. “This is not perfect. The driver must be prepared and we must keep the driver involved.” Lijima believes that the technology’s biggest obstacle to overcome will be driver complacency. It is easy for the driver to forget that he is still responsible for maneuvering the vehicle. Lijima admits that it is easy for the driver to become complacent. However, the technology’s most impressive feature is its ability to react smoothly and quickly when being cut off. Automotive News said: “The braking was controlled and precise rather than panicked. The car functioned like an experienced driver.”

Nissan 4 Altima heads into production

The updated 2016 Nissan Altima has been officially given the green light to head into production. The automaker revealed that the Smyrna facility in Tennessee, continues to take on the responsibility of assembling two of the automaker’s bestselling models: the Nissan Altima and the Nissan Rogue. The automaker recently revealed that the popular midsize sedan was first brought to this facility for assembling in 1992 and has been built there ever since. John Martin, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing, Nissan North America, said: “Altima is Nissan’s bellwether vehicle in North America, so we take great pride in getting it right and continually improveing. All of our North American teams are aware of how important mid-size sedan segment is to this region, and having five straight years of continuous sales growth in such an intensely competitive segment has become a point of pride for us.”

Nissan Takes Home 2nd Place in Nail-Biting Race

This past week, Nissan reported that the its Nissan-powered Greaves Motorsport team took home the European Le Mans Series LM P2 title, after placing second overall winner. Reporters commented that the entire race was back and forth between the racers and a true nail-biter. It was described as a nail-biter until the very end. Nissan driver, Gaeton Paletou said: “GT Academy taught me a huge amount but being given the opportunity to work with this team, and this brand new car has been yet another fantastic experience. To see this come from a design on a computer screen to our first tests and now this very different car that can race and win at this level has been amazing.”

Nissan Drops Off 10 New 100% Electric Vehicles in San Francisco

This past week, Nissan revealed that it plans to explore the future of transportation with the help from its partner, Scoot Networks. The Japanese automaker recently added 10 new, all-electric Nissan New Mobility Concept vehicles in the city of San Francisco, part of the Scoot Networks mobility service. The new concept vehicles have a total range of 40 miles, making them the perfect urban city car. Rachel Nguyen, Executive Director, Nissan Future Lab, said: “As large cities continue to grow into megacities globally, we need to understand how transportation is changing and look ahead to anticipate what transportation need will look like in the future. Scoot Networks is an ideal partner in this research project because they are fulfilling a need that has emerged in the San Francisco market, and they share a similar commitment to zero-emissions mobility.”

Nissan Making Cars for Generation-Z Drivers

Nissan explained in a recent article that Millennials are no longer the most talked about consumers; in fact the Japanese automaker revealed that the next targeted consumer base is made up of purely those categorized as generation-Z. Nissan’s latest concept car, known as the Teatro for Dayz, has been designed for those born after the late 1990’s – also known as “post-millennials.” For a generation who lives behind a screen, the Japanese automaker delivered a vehicle made essentially out of screens. The Teatro for Dayz is able to match any given mood of its Gen Z passengers. The concept car is white by default, and when the car is off, all the driver see is a steering wheel, an accelerator, and brake pedals. The event will last all week long and the participants are gathering from 11 European countries. Formula One technical genius Adrian Newey, head judge of the competition, said: “I have enjoyed a long association with Gran Turismo having designed the Red Bull X2010 prototype for the game, and we have also done some work at Red Bull with Jann Mardenborough. As everyone knows, simulators play an increasing role in real-world racing, and it is no surprise that Jann and the other GT Academy winners are enjoying successful racing careers with Nissan.
