Photos of what could be the 2018 Nissan Frontier have recently been spied online. Though it’s at least two years away, the midsize truck, similar to the Navara, seems to be making its testing debut around metro-area Detroit. The test trucks, with their taped badges, raise a lot of interesting curiosity about whether this is the Navara, intended for foreign markets, or the next Frontier, which is available in the U.S.. One such test truck was marked as a diesel, which prompts us to wonder if Nissan has new ideas for the U.S. midsize pickup market. It appears to have a larger body size than the NP300, and hints at a possible consolidation to market a single midsize truck globally. U.S. Sales Climb for Nissan

Nissan has had a pretty strong end to a very strong year. As gas prices remain low, interest rates stay historically attainable, and consumer interest rises in sport-utility vehicles and crossovers, the Japanese automaker continues its track record of strong U.S. sales. In the month of December, Nissan’s U.S. sales climbed by 18.7%, over the same month in 2014. As consumers rally around sport-utility vehicles and crossovers, and while gasoline prices remain low, Nissan is seeing new interest in vehicles outside of its traditional core, sedans and compact cars. In fact, the company sold an all-time high of 1.48 million vehicles. The Rogue crossover was the lead in December and for the full year, with December sales rising 78% and 2015 sales rising 44.2%. Nissan Builds U.S. Infrastructure of DC Fast Chargers with BMW

Nissan has partnered with BMW to build out the U.S. electric infrastructure, in an effort to make EVs easier to adopt. The two automakers have covered 19 states thus far, installing over 120 chargers to-date. The DC Fast Chargers are not brand-specific, and they can refuel a battery to 80% capacity in under 30 minutes. Nissan LEAF Outpaces Tesla Model S Sales Twice Over

Global sales of the LEAF are around 200,000 – twice as many as the Chevy Volt, and outpacing the 60,000 US buyers of Tesla’s flagship EV. Nissan Aims to Surpass Toyota in Market Share by 2020

According to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, the company will outperform its biggest competitor, Toyota, and capture market share to claim the spot as the wold’s largest automaker by 2020. Nissan’s sales growth through November of this year has out-paced Honda and Toyota, but this is not enough for Ghosn, who says Nissan will capture 10% of the U.S. market – that’s an additional 1.5% over current market share for Nissan. Part of this goal entails a reorganization of the top executives at Nissan USA. We recently a handful of executives shuffled, and Ghosn plans to continue this effort, to give more foreign talent the opportunity to hold leadership positions at Nissan USA. All eyes will be on Nissan in the coming year, as they race toward closing that gap with Toyota. “V2G” Tech in Nissan LEAF Returns Power to the Grid

In a pilot program in Denmark, now the multi-kWh battery in the Nissan LEAF can be used as a mobile power plant for homes, offices, or for returning energy to the grid. Similar to Tesla’s Powerwall, Nissan’s “Vehicle 2 Grid” (V2G) technology could your home during peak hours, saving money on energy bills. Charge the LEAF’s battery at night during off-peak hours, and take advantage of lower energy costs. Receive a discount on energy bills in addition, by sending extra energy back to the grid.
