Nissan Improves Upon The Already Impressive Leaf, Again

Nissan Leaf 5 The Consumer Electronic Show is an annual event that takes places in the early part of the year; for 2017 this happened to be in the first week of January. This wonderful event gives companies an opportunity to show off some of the coolest and most fun gadgets that will find their ways to shelves during the year.  Some car companies, also made the trek to the Las Vegas stage, including Nissan, who revealed the latest plans for redesigning their electric car, the Nissan Leaf.

 

In order to compete against the new Chevy Bolt EV and the Tesla Model 3, Nissan has invested countless hours into perfecting their own long-range electric car. The new Leaf is a part of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility project, which is working on developing new and better electric cars and autonomous cars. It’s all but certain that these two forms of transportation will be the face of driving within the next couple of years, so Nissan is working to get a head start in the competition. The Nissan Leaf already was one of the most affordable and longest range electric cars on the market, and these latest changes only add even more.

 

Along with displaying a prototype that featured all the new updates, Nissan mentioned that it will have several new features. The range will be boosted to around 200 miles, a substantial leap from previous versions. It will also include better handling and more intuitive regenerative braking so even new drivers will be able to operate an electric car with ease.  Nissan is also planning on adding #ProPILOT technology in the near future that will self-drive the car on single-lane highways.

Self-driving cars are the way of the future. Numerous studies and many experts all agree that in the future we won’t have to drive ourselves to work each morning. Surprisingly, Nissan has already managed to create an autonomous car that will be out for testing in Japan in the next year, named the #ProPILOT.

 

While an autonomous car still requires a small amount user input, it’s the closest thing on the market right now to a true self-driving car. The Nissan ProPILOT is a compact car that was designed to navigate on highways in single lane traffic. The system consists of a number of cameras and sensors that monitor how the cars in front and behind are changing speed. Interestingly, the ProPILOT technology is actually in testing right now, but in a form that you might not expect: chairs. You may have seen a short video with some chairs that move on their own and pick up people as they wait in line (if not just look up Nissan Autonomous Chairs). These chairs are based on the same technology and can automatically follow the chairs in front of them at a set distance. This can make waiting in line much easier and more comfortable.
